Walter Harding's Later Life

Throughout Walter Harding's career he dedicated his life and his research to Henry David Thoreau. Even after Walter Harding had retired from teaching at SUNY Geneseo as an English professor in 1983, his life with Thoreau and the Thoreau Society continued. Walter Harding wrote more about Thoreau, the Thoreau Society, and his own Thoreauviana that he had collected and found over the years through careful research. Walter Harding had such an impact, and continues to have an impact on the Thoreau Society and SUNY Geneseo that Obituaries and tributes have been written, scholarships have been created, and a room has been dedicated to Dr. Walter Harding in his name. Walter Harding was a Thoreau lover and expert through and through and it can be seen in his writings and in his dedication to the Thoreau Society and other Thoreauvians. The following documents demonstrate both the work he did in his later career and also the tributes that were paid to him after his death in 1996.
